"And unto
one he gave five talents,
to another
two,
and to
another one:
to every man
according to his several ability;
and
straightway took his journey."
Matthew 25:15
How do you use your Talents?
Reflecting on the story
Jesus tells us
in the Parable of the
Talents,
it brings to my mind
two meanings of this word "talent."
Talent is a strange
word,
meaning a coin or one's
capability or gift.
As children of God,
we all have
capabilities and gifts to share with others.
Here are just a select
few as examples:
When we are blessed
with children
and we neglect to tell
them the stories of faith,
we are burying a
talent.
When we are blessed
with friends
and we neglect to
significantly touch their lives,
we are burying a
talent.
And when we are given a
song to sing
and we sing it not,
we are burying a
talent.
I am sure that you can
think of many more illustrations,
that may even pertain
to yourself.
There are many ways to
bury a talent, just as
" . . . he
that had received one went and digged in the earth,
and hid his
lord's money."
(verse 18)
Whatever talent
means,
whatever it is we are
burying~
money, our faith, our
love, or a song,
the meaning of the
story Jesus tells us
in the "Parable of the
Talents"
is quite clear:
Burying talents means
not using God's gifts!
May we walk as Jesus
walked
and use our talents
to bless others along the way!
