"But as it is written, EYE HATH
NOT SEEN, NOR EAR HEARD,
NEITHER HAVE ENTERED INTO THE
HEART OF MAN,
THE THINGS WHICH GOD HATH
PREPARED
FOR THEM THAT LOVE HIM."
1Corinthians 2:9
God Is Able
There is
little danger that we are
expecting too much of our
Christian faith, hope, and love.
The real danger lies in
expecting too little, or the
wrong things. This Scripture
passage should remind us that
our thoughts are always far
below that which our Lord is
able to do for us.
Because we are human, our
thinking about God and our
speaking to Him is often quite
limited. Our minds simply cannot
grasp the vastness of divine
power or the infinite capacity
of God to do His gracious will
in our life, in His Kingdom, and
here, in this world. We ask too
little of God because we can't
imagine what is within His power
and within the capacity of His
love. We can expect great things
from God when our hearts are
pure and sincere in prayer.
If our relationship to God often
means comparatively little to us
because we do not expect enough
from it, perhaps we are not
looking for great manifestations
of His glory. Our worship in
church and at home may not have
the value for us which it could
have, and our prayers may be
asking far too little because we
have forgotten that our God "is
able to do exceeding abundantly
above all that we ask or think."
God, however, knows our
limitations and has promised us
His Holy Spirit given to us in
God's Word and sacraments, both
when we pray and when we think
of Him.
May the Lord fill you with
wisdom
that can only come from Him,
as
you pray with an all-believing
mind
and a thankful heart,
trusting in His power and will
for your life.
