A Free Gift
 

  We have just come out of a long week-end filled with shoppers across the nation. So many people crowding the streets, filling the stores, looking for the best prices for gift merchandise.

Working in retail now for my 15th Christmas season, it saddened my heart to see the void of "joy" in the atmosphere out there. Greed and frustration has taken the attitude place in gift-giving all around us.

In the world in which we live, people are always thinking of the price of things. We look at a car, and admire its features, but the price stands in the way of having it as our own. We look at a new home, and we would love to live in it, but again, it is beyone our reach if the price is too high. We go into stores to shop for Christmas gifts for family and friends, and we look at the prices to stretch our dollars.

I have to ask myself, "What is the one gift that I admire most about Christmas?" It is one that has no price tag on it.............one that has been freely given..............the gift our Father in heaven has given at a price like no other..............His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ! And the amazing thing about God is that He places the greatest fulfillment of our need at no price at all. However, we are likely to not appreciate the greatness of the gift................just because it is free.

This week-end looked like the world cannot understand God's plan nor comprehend that God's Son had to die to give us a "free gift" of eternal life.

May we all create a list imperative to God's truths in our shopping excursions this season.........keeping in mind, the "price has been paid in full!"
